Site Visit List for 2009

1)
Powell Gardens is fast becoming recognised as a unique public space that highlights the contribution our  local native plants can make to everyone’s garden. With the objective to plant at least one of every species of plant that grows within a 20km radius of Quorn, this garden combines creativity, imagination and perseverance.  Tapping into the vast knowledge of Brian Powell, best known for his pioneering work with the native Quandong plant, this volunteer group painstakingly collects seeds or cuttings, as well as digging up the odd plant when they are in their dormant period, to create their garden around the plants. Powell Gardens is part of Australia's Open Garden scheme.

2) Colebrook Home: -  From 1927 –1944 Colebrook House was a home for part Aboriginal children, many of them stolen from their families in the outback.  Lowitja O’Donoghue was one of these children.  In 1993 one child, named Clara, returned and she lives here still with her husband Raymond Johnson.  Clara has lead an extraordinary life and a 2008 book published about her life story, called “The Spirit Prevails”, remains out of print.  An interpretive centre is currently been established in the original building.

3)
Bob and SueTulloch's House: -  A self- build project that incorporates creative ideas with an enviromental outlook!

4)
